Just wondering why you excluded mention of Y DNA test results within any of your articles ? Would your "1 C" reason for this site make a more convincing case of Somerled being of an R1A ancestry?

Peter, Thanks. If you enter "DNA" in the search facility {page top} there will be 4 results. They are there, but in the longer articles {book chapters}. Maybe I should make a special, more visible mention?

Here is one :- Link to Clan Donald DNA Project {Somerled!}.
Clan Donald’s DNA project, now nine years old, is among the largest family-based genetic genealogy project in the world. On February 25, 2011, it reached the 1000 participant level.

and 2. attribution_interpretation_etc_website_2.pdf :- ... Y-DNA (and carbon dating) from any genuine burial bones found would be very interesting as the current Clan Donald Chiefs are all Norse R1a1.

Thanks for your feedback Peter. Cheers, ian

Peter - and your 2nd good Q. re my "1C" on home page {"Give a sound basis for the only identification of a grave slab for the Abbey founder."} It would be a huge help as Reginald the Abbey founder and his father Somerled should both be R1a {if any bones/teeth can give some good DNA; these days if the DNA is sound then even a biological match can be made}. All the MacDonald Lords of Isles buried in this chapel should be {current ones still are}. So, also exhume grave, their ancestral "tomb", in front of the arched wall niche as well? It would be marvelous if Historic Scotland {site Custodians/Managers} commissioned an "exhumation" from the graves either side of the altar in St Oran's Chapel...see last para., p.114 of the chapter mentioned. Lets pray! Thanks again. All the best. Ian.

King Donald I of Alpin had a grandson Doungallus that married Spontana and they had 4 sons. the 3rd son Gille Adona or Anrotha he then married and had 1 daughter Gillbridest and she married Somerled Norweigen and from this union All MacDonalds are from. They are Not the founders of Iona that would have been St Columba. Yes there are two small gravestones of MacDonalds. but they are descended from a differant line altogether (MacKinnons or known at the time mihic Clann MacFhiniuone.
